

The British arts and crafts designer William Morris mainly had Sussex chairs in his Red House in Kent: simple peasant chairs with turned legs and a wicker seat. Around 1900 they embodied the return to the craft and the craving for rural life. This version is conceived as a comfortable variant of that traditional type.
